Falcon, Lewis-Palmer, TCA Receive State Pairings as CHSAA Unveils Brackets

Three Pikes Peak region squads will compete for state baseball championships among two classes.

In 4A, Falcon and Lewis-Palmer are seeded Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. The Classical Academy enters the 3A tournament as the No. 10 seed in 3A.

Falcon was the final team in the field to punch its ticket. The Falcons played in their regional final against Cheyenne Mountain on Sunday, due to a weather delay.

Falcon beat the Red-Tailed Hawks 9-4. The Falcons scored six runs in the second inning, thanks largely to Jaxon Schleper’s grand slam. Cheyenne Mountain outscored them 4-3 after that, but the Falcons’ big inning was enough for them to advance to state.

Falcon (19-5) will battle No. 3 Pueblo County in the first round on Friday, with 9:30 a.m. as the scheduled start time.

Lewis-Palmer’s first game will come against No. 2 Golden on Friday at noon.

The Rangers (17-8) nudged past Roosevelt 6-5 in their first game at regionals before routing Palmer Ridge 10-0 in the regional championship.

The 4A tournament will be held at two sites: the Air Force Academy and UCCS. Both Falcon and Lewis-Palmer will play their first-round games at UCCS.

TCA is the only team in the 3A state field that won its regional on the road.

The Titans (18-4) beat Brush 4-1 in their first game before winning an 8-7 thriller against Delta in the regional final. TCA has won nine of its last 10 contests.

The 3A tournament will be held in Greeley, and the Titans will play their first game at Butch Butler Field. TCA opens the tourney against No. 2 Berthoud, with first pitch slated for 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
