Teach to Shape Minds and Hearts
EMPLOYMENT AT TCA
Are you inspired by the idea of being an educator, but discouraged by the state of K-12 education in the U.S.? As a public charter school in Colorado Springs, The Classical Academy provides a unique, small class-size environment where teachers have the freedom to focus on what's most important: students and their development.
TCA is whole person focused, relationship based, idea centered, and classically oriented. Our community-wide emphasis on the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness sets us apart. We warmly invite you to apply to join our team.
- All TCA postings are accessible through the links above, including Educational Professional Staff, Administrative Staff, Support Staff, and Substitute positions.
- Please note that TCA does not use Academy School District 20's application process.
- TCA Staff receive priority consideration on our wait list for enrolling children at TCA.
-
Hiring Timeline
- We open our teacher applications on February 1 for the following school year.
- Educational Professional Staff, Administrative Staff, Support Staff, and Substitute openings are also posted as needed throughout the calendar year.
- All complete applications are read and screened. (INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS ARE NOT PROCESSED.) Completed applications are those which have all sections of the application completed AND have submitted the additional required materials and documents.
- Qualified applicant records are activated and stored in our hiring database.
- As open positions occur, administrators search active applicant records in the database, review applications, and select candidates for interviews.
- Applicants are interviewed, usually by a team composed of at least an administrator and, for teaching positions, an Educational Philosophy staff member.
- Administrators may gather more data to make hiring decisions.
- All applicants are notified regarding the hiring decision. Applicants who were not selected for an interview receive an email notification. All applicants who interview receive a phone call from a representative of the interviewing team.
- In some cases, these notifications may not take place until late summer, as filling all of our positions for each school year often runs through the summer.
- The Classical Academy job applications are considered for one hiring season. A hiring season is a calendar year, January to December.
- Applications may be renewed for a second hiring season at your request. Please access the online application system to update your application for the current hiring season.
- After the two-year period, you must reapply.
-
Submitting Your Application
- You must complete your application to be considered for employment. Completed applications are those which have all sections of the application completed AND have submitted the additional required materials and documents.
- Transcripts should be final transcripts (graduate and undergraduate) showing degrees awarded. Please also submit transcripts that show any additional coursework completed.
- If you are currently in an education program and do not have a final transcript, we will accept the most current transcript available FOR APPLICATION PURPOSES ONLY. Upon graduation, you must submit a final transcript. Copies of transcripts are acceptable for application. If you are hired, you will need to provide official transcripts.
- Letters of reference should be as current as possible, preferably not older than two years. Teacher applicants should ask recommenders to address, as specifically as possible, their work with students and colleagues, their mastery of subject or content, their teaching skills and techniques, and their character.
- A Colorado license is NOT required for you to teach. However, we ask that you supply a copy of any certification, expired or current, from any state, or inform us of any plans to acquire a certificate.
-
Additional Hiring Considerations
- Salaries for TCA teachers are not based strictly on number of years teaching and college education credits. Factors such as other experience, knowledge of our teaching methodology, travel, foreign language, etc. are also considered.
- We do not require Colorado teaching certification.
- We do not work on the basis of employment contracts.
-
Notice of Nondiscrimination
The Classical Academy does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, national origin, disability, gender, or any other protected status in its educational programs and activities (including employment and application for employment).

About The Classical Academy
Founded in 1997, TCA is Colorado's largest brick and mortar K-12 Charter School, educating more than 3,500 students in seven schools on three campuses with one vision.
Like all charter schools, TCA is a tuition-free, publicly funded school that is independently run. Open to all students, there are no test-in requirements. TCA’s charter is granted by Academy School District 20, one of the top performing school districts in Colorado. We value our positive relationship with ASD20. TCA rigorously upholds state standards while also cultivating a love of learning in our students. We are dedicated to small class sizes of 18-22 students.
Staff and parents choose to be part of our school because they are invested in our shared mission and vision, which creates a strong community.

Teach with a Purpose
TCA's classroom experience is guided by our Mission, our Core Values, and our Creed:
Titans endeavor to recognize and pursue truth, beauty, and goodness.
Titans celebrate virtue in scholarship, relationship, and citizenship,
Titans take ownership of and find joy in learning.
Titans value our responsibilities above our rights.
Titans love, respect, and protect one another.
Striving to be our best, do our best,
And give our best to the world, in
Mind, Body, and Spirit,WE ARE TITANS!
Not only does every student learn this creed, but it is what guides us in our days together. The creed provides concrete opportunities for character-building moments between teachers and students in the classroom, and on our playgrounds and athletic fields.

Be Part of Something Bigger than Yourself
The Classical Academy was founded on the belief that the best education provides students with both wisdom and knowledge. Parents look to the Classical Academy as a skilled and passionate partner in the educational journey of their school-age children — a journey toward becoming thoughtful, virtuous, wise individuals. We endeavor to build relationships that cultivate and unleash the natural curiosity of learners through a stimulating, classically inspired curriculum that honors the whole child.
Classical education is based on the Trivium, which consists of three stages: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. During the grammar stage, students learn the basic elements of language and how to use them correctly. In the logic stage, students learn how to reason and think critically. In the rhetoric stage, students learn how to communicate effectively and persuasively. The classical education model also emphasizes the study of literature, history, mathematics, science, and the arts, as well as character education.
